The reason? <em>\u201cThey worked wonders last time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finance officials from Ottawa say that U.S. sanctions during Trump&#8217;s presidency unintentionally boosted Canadian industry by forcing local innovation, reducing imports, and strengthening national pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cFrankly, we\u2019re better off when he\u2019s angry,\u201d said Deputy Finance Minister Sylvain Roy. \u201cThe last round of tariffs triggered a manufacturing boom, a tech surge, and an unexpected increase in maple syrup sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A confidential memo leaked from the Prime Minister\u2019s office reportedly refers to Trump as \u201cCanada\u2019s most effective unintentional economic advisor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, Trump was said to be \u201cstrongly considering it,\u201d telling a small crowd at his golf course in Doral:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThey want sanctions? Ask China.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada\u2019s new economic strategy, nicknamed \u201cOperation Thank You, Donald,\u201d includes a toolkit of passive-aggressive policies designed to provoke Trump:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Quietly removing ketchup from hotel menus in Alberta<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Broadcasting French-dubbed versions of Fox News into Michigan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Naming a Halifax landfill \u201cTrump Ridge\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Parliament has also debated issuing <strong>Trump Tariff Bonds<\/strong> to raise money from future rounds of U.S. economic punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Trudeau declined to comment but was seen smiling while drinking an imported Diet Coke \u2014 one of the few U.S. products still surviving the last trade war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economists remain divided. Some say Canada is playing a dangerous game.
